America’s VetDogs is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide enhanced mobility and independence to disabled veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders. They believe in empowering these heroes by giving them back their confidence and self-reliance. The organization has built a reputation for its proficiency in matching individuals with physical injuries, PTSD, hearing and vision loss, and seizures with highly trained service and guide dogs.
VetDogs provides all its services, including transportation, training, and more, without any cost to the recipients. The organization trains and places a variety of assistance dogs, including service dogs for physical disabilities, guide dogs for the visually impaired, PTSD service dogs, and facility dogs for rehabilitation in military and VA hospitals. Despite the high expense of breeding, raising, training, and placing a single service dog, which can cost over $50,000, VetDogs is able to offer these services free of charge due to the generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations, businesses, and community organizations.
When a person decides to get a service dog from VetDogs, they become a member of a supportive and inclusive community. The two-week in-residence training program at the VetDogs campus in Smithtown, New York, focuses on building a strong bond between the student and their new dog. The program utilizes small class sizes to provide personalized attention and support from experienced and certified trainers, and a comprehensive curriculum to equip both the student and dog with the skills to work together efficiently.
